A 3-day trial without a card
Almost every subscription app on the App Store funnels you through an Apple intro offer: tap subscribe, enter your password, the timer starts, and three days later the renewal goes through unless you remembered to cancel. It is a fully legal flow that millions of people complete without intending to.
We do not run that flow. Pebble’s 3-day Pass is a custom server-side entitlement: tap start, the Pro modules unlock, and three days later the Pass ends without billing anyone. No card, no Apple-managed subscription, no quiet renewal.
What we replaced it with:
- One Pass per device, ever. You cannot reset it by reinstalling. We use RevenueCat’s anonymous user ID, scoped to the device, with no email and no Apple ID lookup.
- A backend POST to
/v1/subscriptions/start-trial, server-side grant, then a local RC sync so the app reflects the new tier within a second. - An honest paywall when the Pass ends: subscribe in the app to continue, or fall back to the free tier — Photos, Recently Deleted, and Storage Map are free without limits.
The trade-off: we cannot capture the “forgot to cancel” cohort. We lose some revenue from people who would have stayed by accident. We are choosing the slower, more honest funnel because the reviews and the brand are worth more than that revenue.
If you start the Pass and decide Pebble is not for you, do nothing. We will not bill you.
